Virar & Arnala

Maharashtra · 1h 30m drive · 3.9

Virar and Arnala offer a quick coastal escape that Mumbai's Western Railway makes remarkably accessible. The star attraction is Arnala Fort — a 15th-century Portuguese island fort reached by a ₹20 boat ride — rarely crowded and genuinely historic. Add Jivdani Temple's hilltop panoramas, the clean Rajodi Beach, Vasai Fort's sprawling ruins, and very cheap fresh seafood, and you have a surprisingly rich one or two-day destination just 60 km from Mumbai. Best October–March.
